I can’t believe it’s been about a month since I last blogged. Strangely, every time I felt like it, I wasn’t anywhere near a computer or, if I was, the electricity decided to take a break! Really, I’m not joking. My dear country Pakistan, a land of great potential, is facing major issues these days, power generation being just one of them.

I’ve been glued to the news and although I’m not a supporter of any main political party or politician, I have begun to realize the importance of always being aware of the socioeconomic and political conditions in the country. Sure, everyone’s fed up of the corruption, the lies and how nothing ever seems to be right but does that mean we close our eyes, turn away, presuming that since we can’t “do” anything about it, might as well remain ignorant too? Imagine if the educated and informed class were to collectively adopt such a policy towards the affairs of the state – are we then waiting for someone else from abroad or even petty criminals and the such to take charge of our affairs? Or perhaps, we feel that one fine day, when everything’s all dandy, we’re going to wake up to our political scene and jump right in to play our role? A bit of wishful thinking there, isn’t it?

I don’t blog about politics but it’s such a big part of me and I am taking an increasingly active interest in the goings on in my country that I should blog about it. I’m seriously considering joining the growing group of young Pakistani bloggers who’re aware of what’s going on and they dissect every development on their blog. Pretending all there’s to life is to sit by the curb and watch the world go by is a silly course of action when every Muslim today should really be aspiring to prove his or her worth by always being at the forefront of change… we’ve been passive role-players for too long now.
