Me

Assalam Alaikum. May peace, mercy and the blessings of Allah be upon you.

Good question, who is this blogger? Don’t worry. I’m not going to launch into a complex description of my personality, appearance, like or dislikes. We’re both very busy people so let’s make this as simple as possible!

My name: Ameera Kiran Khan (on the documents)

My relatives call me: Ameera or Kiran (they can’t decide which they like better!)

My sisters & little kids call me: Biya. Biya was my younger sister’s attempt at pronouncing ‘Ameera’ when she was two. It stuck and now, there are two other people I know who are called ‘Biya’ by the kiddies because it’s so cute. :)

I was born on: 4th November, 1986 (my parents date it as the day a big mischief-maker barged into their lives. Aah, they love me so much!)

My birthplace is:Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. My soul is buried in that soil. Don’t laugh. I’m serious… touchy subject.

My parents: Sher Mohammed Khan and Farah Zeb Abbasi. If you’re wondering how my parents have different surnames, that’s because in Islam, the woman isn’t obliged to give up her own surname at the time of marriage. As an individual with her own rights, she’s entitled to keeping her surname. That’s how my mother is an ‘Abbasi’ instead of a ‘Khan’. Cool, eh?

I’m currently in: Karachi, Pakistan.

So my nationality is: Pakistani, yes but that’s what it says on the documents and that’s really only a small part of what makes my ‘nationality’. Touchy subject, again.

Languages I speak:Urdu, English. I can understand some Arabic and I hope to learn this beautiful language properly, InshAllah!

My education:

Primary, Junior Secondary: International Indian School(formerly, Tabuk Coaching Centre): Tabuk, Saudi Arabia
Higer Secondary: Beaconhouse School System – Karachi, PK
DA Degree College for Women – Karachi, PK

I am currently studying: at Dow Medical College of the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS). Yes, to become a doctor InshAllah (if Allah wills!). I’m in the middle of year four (out of five), Alhamdolillah (praise be to Allah).

I want to become: a Paediatrician, InshAllah, after doing my MBBS. I love kids and I’ve come to realise becoming a ‘child specialist’ would be natural. :) What ever Allah (swt) deems best!

My lifestyle: …Islam, is everything to me. It binds me stronger to my birthplace, as well as to greater Arabia, Palestine (including modern-day Israel), Syria and Iraq – in other words, the areas where the famous Prophets (may Allah be pleased with them all) were sent.

Places I’d love to visit in my lifetime: Alexandria (Egypt), Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Tabuk (S. Arabia), Makran (Pakistan)…

Places I’d love to visit often: Makkah (S. Arabia), Madinah (S. Arabia), Damascus (Syria)

My sphere of interests includes: Studying Islam : conveying the pure message of Islam to others, both Muslims and Non-Muslims and to clarify common misconceptions : writing articles : reading decent books with stories that have a moral to teach : medical research : cooking : travelling to historical sites and nature’s marvels untouched by man : jewellery : teaching little kids and shaping their personalities to help them grow into decent human beings, representatives of Islamic principles of faith, justice and equality.

Qualities I admire:

Focusing on the Quran and Sunnah and trying to live their lives in accordance to them.
Honesty, friendliness, pure speech, not backbiting about others or passing comments on them, striving to learn more about Islam, selflessness, helping the Cause of Allah in whichever way you can.

Music I listen to: None except for the Arabic recitation of the Quran by Ali Abd-Ar-Rahman Al-Huzhaify, Ghamidy, Sudais, Shorim and Qari Abd-ul-Basit.

I also love listening to Nasheed which exclude musical instruments (musical instruments [except the Duff] and lewd poetry are not permissible in Islam). Ahmed Bukhatir, Zain Bhika, Yusuf Islam are my favorites.

All other ‘music’ I can do without in this life, Alhamdolillah! :)

Scholars and speakers I listen to, for their adherence to nothing more than the Quran and Sunnah:

Yasir Qadhi, Zakir Naik, Nouman Ali Khan, Dr Israr Ahmed, Dr Farhat Hashmi, Yusuf Estes, Bilal Philips

What about Osama bin Laden? (Irresistible question, I know, if you’re a Non-Muslim.) I don’t know him, so I can’t comment on him unless I meet him and verify what he’s up to. Until then, I can’t base my opinions on what some country’s President simply said in his speeches or some evidences he showed to another country’s head. If opinions were based on the international media, we’d still be looking for those (nonexistent) weapons of mass destruction.

Any questions on Islam? I suggest you first check out www.Islamtomorrow.com which does an excellent job introducing Islam to curious Non-Muslims. Better still, the founder of the site is a former Christian priest who himself had a lot to say against Islam until he learn the truth about it. He found Christ/Jesus or Isa (peace be upon him), as we call him in Islam, and clarifies doubts and misunderstandings for others now.

I think that’s a lot to say about myself for now… if something interesting comes to mind, I’ll let you know, InshAllah! Assalam Alaikum!

    Salam,

I think I struck upon your blog through MM. I must say you’ve good english for someone from Pakistan. Ok, I’m not trying to be condescending, I myself am residing in motherland at the moment. Seems like a cool blog.

Oh, and I’m stuck in MBBS too, and should be studying for my PROF I!!! :(

Also, insha Allah you should expand your circle of who you take your knowledge from. Alhamdulilah a lot of scholars out there. (PeaceTV Urdu rocks btw).

    Ma’asalamah.
